On Sunday, Mar. 23, the New York Knicks will host Noche Latina Night, when they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers, as part of the NBA’s eighth annual Noche éne•bé•a program. In support of the League’s initiative and as a continuation of the Knicks’ multicultural outreach efforts, the Knicks will host Los Knicks Fan Festival before Noche Latina from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in front of Madison Square Garden.
Knicks Legends Walt Frazier and John Starks, Liberty great Kym Hampton, St. John’s great Felipe Lopez and NYC legend and author Bobbito Garcia will be on-hand to talk with fans as they participate in contests and Knicks giveaways. The pregame fan festival will be hosted by Spanish-language radio stations La Mega 97.9 and 93.1 Amor and it celebrates Latino heritage and culture. It will feature local Latin artists such as DJ Supreme and Marisol, Hispanic food, Latin-themed dance lessons and performances, as well as family friendly activities including face painters and photo booths.
Latin elements will continue to be on display during the Knicks/Cavaliers game with the Knicks wearing their “Nueva York” jerseys and being introduced to the crowd in Spanish. The national anthem will be performed in Spanish by Carrissa Peros, the Knicks City Dancers will perform salsa to “Quimbara,” a classic energy song by the legendary Celia Cruz and DJ Alex Sensation from La Mega 97.9 will be the in-game DJ.
