Knicks Fall Short At Buzzer Despite Melo's 44

By Charlie Widdoes (Twitter)

How it Happened:

Despite the best efforts of Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks dropped a heartbreaker to Dallas on Dirk Nowitzki's free throw line jumper at the buzzer. Tied at 108, the Mavs' superstar got the ball in the high post, worked for position against his defender, Melo, and unleashed his trademark turnaround shot off one foot. After it bounced on the backboard and the rim, it dropped in.

Anthony did everything he could, shaking off a slow start to pour in 44 points and haul in nine rebounds, but the Knicks were unable to overcome 21 turnovers and Dallas' hot shooting from three-point land.

New York fought back from an eight-point deficit with 1:37 to play, but they were unable to get a bucket when they had the ball on the second-to-last possession, and they couldn't come up with the stop on Nowitzki.

Knick of the Night:

Anthony was sensational as a scorer, making seven of 12 three-pointers and all nine free throws he attempted.

Looking Ahead:

Things don't get any easier, as the Knicks head to Miami to play the defending-champion Heat on Thursday.
