Shootaround Report: Lineup Adjustments & A Felton Injury Update

Jonah Ballow

Adjusting The Lineup
Prior to Tuesday morning’s shootaround, @NY_KnicksPR tweeted an update for Raymond Felton and Metta World Peace.  Felton is listed as a game-time decision due to a lower back/hip injury and World Peace did not travel with the team and is dealing with a sore left knee.  World Peace was sidelined in the loss to the Hawks on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden.

Knicks head coach Mike Woodson has not made a decision on the starting lineup and is waiting to see how Felton feels closer to tip-off.

If Felton is unavailable, Woodson mentioned Beno Udrih as a possible replacement option at the point guard spot in the starting lineup.  Pablo Prigioni would direct the second unit as seen in the previous contest against the Hawks.

After the shootaround session, Woodson reiterated that if he does decide to match Detroit’s monster frontline (Josh Smith, Greg Monroe, Andre Drummond) he will place Kenyon Martin next to Carmelo Anthony and Andrea Bargnani in New York’s frontcourt.

Injury Update: Felton
Woodson provided some context to the recent news of Felton’s hip and lower back issues.

“He took a blow I want to say it’s been 2-3 games ago on a back screen and he’s kind of limped from that.  I don’t know the severity of it but he’s been playing and hasn’t really complained a whole lot,” Woodson sated.

Felton battled a hamstring injury during the preseason but confirmed the two injuries are not correlated.  He’s more concerned about the pinched nerve that is causing discomfort and limitations to his game.

“It’s pain that’s also hindering me from doing certain moves and being explosive off the dribble, moving laterally at times.  Like I said, if I’m not able to do it, I really have to consider letting Beno and Pablo take over that job and those guys are great point guards, so I just got to try to let this thing rest up,” Felton explained.
