Just when it looked like Smith might have reached his ceiling, someone tore the roof off; he led the Knicks in scoring and scored 30+ for the third consecutive game, in a 111-102 victory against the Bobcats.

Behind an extremely efficient shooting performance (12-for-18 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free throw line) Smith scored 37 points, becoming the first reserve to score 30+ in three straight games since Ricky Pierce did it in 1990 for the Milwaukee Bucks. Additionally, this victory gave the Knicks a 3 ½ game lead over the Nets for the Atlantic Division with less than 10 games to go.
