With Carmelo Anthony scratched from the lineup due to an injury suffered a few days earlier, it seemed as though Oklahoma City’s first game in New York in two years had suddenly lost a bit of its thunder.

What was supposed to be a battle between Anthony and Kevin Durant turned into a Smith vs. Durant duel, as J.R. played more like a superstar than a sixth man -- finishing with 36 points (his first of seven total 30+ point performances for the season) on 14-of-29  shooting, three rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks. And even though he misfired on the potential game-winning shot at the buzzer, this game sparked what would be a spectacular end-of-the-year run.
