By moving Brewer, the Knicks accomplished two things: First, they acquired a second round pick. While the track record of second round picks sticking in the league is spotty, it’s important for the Knicks to continue to ‘stock the cupboard’ with draft picks after sending so many out in the Carmelo Anthony trade.
Secondly, and most importantly, the Knicks opened up a roster spot. They then promptly came to an agreement on a 10-day contract with Kenyon Martin, who will bring toughness, defense, and size to the Knicks second unit. His experience and relationships with current Knicks players will not show up in any box score, but these are the kinds of intangibles championship teams fill their bench with. - Brian Faith, Knicks Fan Since ’93
