During his first season with the Knicks, Chandler won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, becoming the first New York Knick to do so. Also, for the second consecutive year, Chandler made the NBA’s All-Defensive Second Team, which is chosen by the NBA’s 30 head coaches. The NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award was decided by the press.

Additionally, Chandler was named to the All-NBA third team, along with teammate Carmelo Anthony. The All-NBA selection was the first of Chandler’s career.

That summer, Tyson Chandler was named to Team USA for the 2012 London Olympics, at which he helped the team to an undefeated tournament record and a victory over Spain in the gold medal game.
